The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Africa reached 3,914,044 on Wednesday as the continent continues efforts to contain the virus.
According to the latest data by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the continent has also registered 104,382 deaths.
South Africa remains the hardest hit country by the pandemic, having reported 1,514,815 cases and 50,271 deaths. These figures account for 38.70 percent of the continent’s virus load and 48.16 percent of the death toll.
Besides South Africa, eight other countries on the continent have reported more than 100,000 COVID-19 cases.
A total of 13 African countries have reported more than 1,000 virus-related fatalities.
In efforts to contain the spread of the virus, many countries on the continent have started rolling out vaccination programs or are about to launch them. – CGTN
