It was not entirely clear what new role Mr Kashangura would play as he is not leaving the data communication services company. A full board meeting is scheduled for tomorrow to formalise Mr Mangwende’s position, after he joined the company at the behest of the Africom board.
“We do not know whether he is coming in as chief executive, interim CEO or as chairman,” said one source.
“This is what the board will deliberate on. Mr Kashangura is not going anywhere as he remains one of the key shareholders in the company. We are going to hear from the meeting what role Mr Kashangura would be playing going forward.”
Details on the new appointments could not be ascertained at the time of going to press. All an Africom official could say was the company’s official position would be announced after the board meeting.
Unconfirmed reports alleged Mr Kashangura had been relieved of his duties over differences with the board on the implementation of certain projects, resulting in the board hiring Mr Mangwende.
Mr Mangwende is a renowned businessman who holds a degree in computers and is a chartered accountant. He is a co-founder of Interfin Merchant Bank of Zimbabwe Limited.
He served as the chairman and chief executive officer of Tedco Limited, chairman of the boards of Lifestyle Furnishers Zimbabwe (Pvt) Ltd and Tedco (Zimbabwe) Ltd.
He also served as a board member at ART Holdings Ltd, Strategis Holdings Limited, Africom and Jetmaster (Private) Limited.
