IN an era where music is constantly crossing borders and blending cultures, a fresh and inspiring voice is rising with a message deeply rooted in faith, identity, and truth.
Zimbabwean Praise Afro fusion artiste, Sandra Chimanga Thiem Masiiwa, now based in Germany, is carving out a distinctive sound that fuses gospel, reggae, and traditional African rhythms into music that uplifts, teaches, and resonates with everyday life.
Her journey began humbly in Sunday School, where she first discovered her love for singing.
Those formative years in the church’s praise and worship team, not only nurtured her vocal talent, but also grounded her in a spiritual foundation that continues to shape her artistry today.
What started as a childhood passion has blossomed into a calling—one that bridges continents and cultures through music.
Over the years, Sandra has steadily built her performance experience.
In Zimbabwe, she collaborated with cultural groups such as Pamuzinda, and lent her voice as a backing vocalist for various artistes.
These opportunities sharpened her stage presence and strengthened her connection to her African heritage, a connection that remains central to her sound even as she now creates from Europe.
What sets her apart is her bold approach to gospel music. Rather than confining herself to traditional boundaries, she expands the genre to reflect real life experiences.
Her songs explore themes of gratitude, injustice, love, and spiritual protection, while also speaking candidly about the importance of truth.
Delivered with calm confidence and emotional authenticity, her music feels both personal and universal—anchored in faith yet open to the realities of modern life.
At 40, Sandra Chimanga Thiem Masiiwa is not simply making music; she is shaping a movement. Her artistry is a testament to resilience, cultural pride, and the power of gospel to evolve without losing its essence.
Speaking to Weekender Entertainment, she expressed her inspiration to do more, to keep pushing boundaries, and to continue creating music that not only entertains but transforms.
“I feel deeply inspired by the journey I have walked so far. It has not always been easy, but every step has shaped my faith, my voice and my purpose. I am truly thankful for the people who have supported me, believed in me, and stood with me through it all. That love and encouragement keep me going. It pushes me to do more, to grow, and to keep sharing my message. My music is a reflection of gratitude, resilience, and truth, and I hope it continues to uplift and remind people that with God, every season has meaning,” she said.
Currently, the songstress primarily sings in Shona, embracing her Zimbabwean heritage while sharing it with a global audience.
However, she has plans to expand her reach even further, with upcoming projects in English and German.
This multilingual approach reflects her vision: to create music that remains rooted in African identity while connecting with listeners across different cultures and backgrounds.
Her debut single, Ndiyambutseyi, marks a powerful introduction to her artistry.
Based on a true story, the song centres on themes of breakthrough, perseverance, and spiritual resilience.
It tells the story of overcoming unseen struggles and trusting in God through life’s most difficult moments. The emotional depth of the track is matched by its strong musical composition, making it both relatable and uplifting.
The single was co-composed by reggae artiste, I-Finton, who was born and bred in Dangamvura, Mutare, before moving to Germany, and it was produced by Antony Gasani and Kayzz Grande, bringing together a team that helped shape its rich and polished sound.
With its heartfelt lyrics and carefully crafted production, Ndiyambutseyi has already begun to position Masiiwa as an artiste with both purpose and artistic depth.
Looking ahead, Masiiwa said she is preparing to release her next single, Makatendeka, a song centred on praise and thanksgiving. While Ndiyambutseyi reflects struggle and breakthrough, Makatendeka shifts the focus to gratitude—recognising God’s protection and faithfulness, even in battles that are not visible to the human eye.
“The message of Makatendeka is both simple and powerful: God is always at work, fighting unseen battles and guarding His people from harm. It carries a strong declaration of faith, emphasising that nothing is impossible with God. When God says yes, no one can stand against it. The track blends a strong Gospel foundation with Afro-fusion rhythms and subtle Reggae influences, creating a sound that feels both modern and deeply rooted in tradition,” she said.
As she continues to grow her career from Germany, she represents a new wave of African artists who are proudly carrying their cultural identity into global spaces.
