UPCOMING Afro-pop musician, Shakespear “Shakes” Magorimbo, says his new song titled, Kumagumo, is set to resonate with many divorcees.
The song explores the realities and challenges which a divorced person must deal with.
Divorce cases have been rising in the country as couples battle to deal with various challenges rocking their unions.
He joins a number of artists around the world who have penned songs exploring the subject of divorce.
“Divorce can be more than tough, it can be one of the most exhausting and painful events of your life,” noted the blog which ranked the best 10 divorce songs of all-time.
“Sometimes it’s music that captures the pain, confusion, and challenges of leaving a spouse in the best way possible.”
The blog listed the 10 best divorce songs of all-time as ‘The Great Divide’ by Neil Young, ‘Divorce Separation Blues’ by the Avett Brothers, ‘Got My Name Changed’ by the Pistol Annies, ‘Highway 20 Ride’ by Zac Brown Band, ‘Family Portrait’ by Pink, ‘A Good Year For The Roses’ by Elvis Costello & The Attractions, ‘Misunderstanding’ by Genesis, D-I-V-O-R-C-E by Tammy Wynette, ‘Alimony’ by Weird Al Yankovic and ‘I Cried All The Way To The Bank’ by Norma Jean.
Two months ago, Shakes released Kumagumo.
He started recording in 2018 and has several singles to his name.
Shakes hopes to release an album by the end of next year
“Most of the songs I have written are about the conditions I come across, be it love issues or any other issue.
“In the song Kumagumo, I was trying to narrate that once we are in a relationship, or marriage, there are possibilities of a divorce.
“The world we live in now faces different challenges including hunger, unemployment and other struggles so, as a musician, I try my best to write music that can bring people together,” he said.
Shakes draws most of his inspiration from artists like Alexio Kawara, The Fusion Five and Jah Prayzah.
