Celebrated Zimbabwean singer and saxophonist Vee Mukarati will tonight bring his Afrojazzanova series of concerts to an end with a collaborative show with PrayerSoul at Pablo’z Restaurant Sam Levy’s Village. The former Prince Edward School jazz band member will close the series with his 10th concert in style. Vee Mukarati said it has been a long ride and together with his band members have enjoyed playing alongside many great artists.Afrojazzanova is a series of collaborative concerts that he has been hosting since June 2015.
“The band has had the pleasure of hosting nine epic events and working with nine extremely talented and inspiring guest musicians and friends,” he said.
“The idea behind the series was to host 10 concerts with 10 guest artists, where at each concert my band and I would learn their music and present it together. Over the past months I have collaborated with Bryan Kadengu, Munyaradzi Nyamarebvu, Hope Masike, Tariro Negitare, Gemma Griffiths, Sekai Zengeza, Dimitri Kwenda, Fungai Nengare and Synik.
“This next concert with PrayerSoul is the 10th concert and the end of the first instalment of Afrojazzanova. We will hopefully bring the concept back at a grander scale after the winter months but at this point I do not want to divulge too much information about the next step,” said Vee Mukarati.
PrayerSoul is fast evolving into the flagship of Neo Soul music and said he is honoured to be part of this edition of the AfroJazzanova, especially considering this will be a special edition.
“AfroJazzanova is a series of shows that Vee has been doing for almost a year now, they are always collaboration shows,” he said.
“These concerts have been held at different venues, and have always delivered nothing short of amazing performances. So today’s show is the last one and I am ecstatic because Vee and I collaborate well on stage have performed together in Germany in several cities. So it would be awesome to showcase that energy here at home.
“I will perform new material from my upcoming second album. I will also be doing my first official solo show this year next Wednesday at Chez’ Zandi’s by Alliance Francaise,” said PrayerSoul.
Vee is an accomplished Zimbabwean singer, songwriter and saxophonist with an intense passion for musical exploration and performance. A graduate of the Berklee Programme, his sound is drawn from a wide array of genres and personalities. He has shared the stage and recorded with Jacaranda Muse, Mokoomba, Blessing Chimanga, Baron Retif and Conception Perez and Jamaram to mention a few.
