Afrojazzanova ends in style

Saxophonist Vee Mukarati’s first instalment of the Afrojazzanova series ended in style last Friday at Pablo’z Restaurant at Sam Levy’s Village with a collaboration concert featuring Prayer Soul.

Jazz fans thronged the Pablo’z Restaurant to witness the end of what has been an exciting series of jazz nights.

Mukarati said he was happy with the turnout and was just overwhelmed with the response from jazz fanatics.

“This show was a huge success and Prayer Soul out did himself and the band was on point, people were dancing and I was utterly pleased with it all.

“I was happy with the turnout which was really good. I was happy when we did songs ‘Let You Go’, ‘Thirty-five’ as well as the collaborations with Prayer Soul on ‘Wandipengesa’, ‘60 Seconds’ and ‘Again’.

“I want to thank my team, particularly the band, our photographer Bongani Khumbula, our graphic designer Kombo Chapfika and my fashion designer Collin Ratisai. I want to thank them for their hard work, input, advice and friendship and a big thank you to the fans for supporting this idea and seeing it through with me despite all odds.

“I am working on a new series that I’m calling ‘Game of Horns’. It will be with the band but this time with a big horn section,” said Mukarati.

During the Jazzanova series of concerts Mukarati has collaborated with musicians like Bryan Kadengu, Munyaradzi Nyamarebvu, Hope Masike, Tariro Negitare, Gemma Griffiths, Sekai Zengeza, Dimitri Kwenda, Fungai Nengare and Synik. He will be launching a new series of shows dubbed “Game of Horns”, this coming August and is also part of the main acts to performing at the coming Miombo magic festival.
