AFTER 10-YEAR HIATUS, MAFRIQ RELEASES SINGLE

AFTER a 10-year hiatus, music group Mafriq has released a new single titled Matombo, the precursor to the Urban Grooves compilation Chamhembe Zvekare.

Produced by Urban grooves pioneer, Take Five, the track is about loving Zimbabwe and is aimed at bringing a sense of national pride.

“Mafriq had not released a song together for almost a decade, so it is a really huge project for us,” said Pauline Gundidza of Mafriq.

“We partnered with Chamhembe and its affiliates to produce the song and visualiser.

“We felt that after the Urban Grooves concert last year which was so well supported, it was time to get back together and give the fans what they want.”

She added:

“We would like to thank all our fans who kept on encouraging us to put our differences aside and revamp Mafriq which people say is one of the best groups to ever come out of Zimbabwe.

“That makes us so proud and we hope the fans will enjoy this new single and the many that are coming after it.”

Mafriq consists of Tunga T, DJ Discord and Pauline.

Although the band continued to perform after last year’s Urban Grooves concert, Matombo marks Mafriq’s first official release in a decade.

Comedian Carl Joshua Ncube played a part in the new song via Artificial Intelligence.
