. . . after FC Platinum’s striking pair

WINLESS Highlanders are reportedly chasing after the signatures of FC Platinum’s attacking pair of Silas Songani and Stanley Ngala in a bid to sharpen their frontline, which has fired blanks.

Bosso have had a nightmarish start to the 2021-22 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, losing twice and drawing once in their opening three matches.

Worse still, the struggling fading giants are yet to score.

Highlanders were gored 2-0 by Black Rhinos in their opening league match, drew 0-0 against Ngezi Platinum Stars and lost 1-0 to Manica Diamonds last weekend.

Lack of potency in front of goal has forced the Bosso technical team to search for scoring solutions by recommending at least three strikers, including Songani and Ngala.

Both Songani (32) and 25-year-old Ngala are reportedly on their way out of FC Platinum when their contracts expire on December 31.

Sources said Bosso have made contact with the players’ representatives and tabled good offers.

Offers have been tabled and Bosso are working on getting the two players so that they solve their scoring problems.

The coach (Mandla Mpofu) submitted his wish list and the club is trying to get the players.

However, in Songani, Bosso might face stiff competition for his signature as Dynamos are also said to be keen on the veteran forward,” said a source.

Washington Navaya, who arrived from Gweru at the beginning of the year and Lynoth Chikuhwa, who retraced his footsteps to Bosso from Botswana, seem to be struggling to exert themselves as reliable strikers.

Navaya has only scored one goal in Highlanders’ seven games in the Chibuku Super Cup from the group stages to the quarter-finals while Chikuhwa scored two.

The other strikers at Highlanders are Rodi Sibanda, Toto Banda, Keith Mavunga and Mthabisi Ncube.

Highlanders are bracing for a challenge to land their targets, with Mpofu on record saying it’s tough to get more than five players as most clubs have tied up their top players.

Highlanders acting chief executive officer and spokesperson Ronald Moyo confirmed that they are in conversations with certain players but declined to reveal their identities.

“We are moving towards a transfer window having been struggling in front of goal.

Under the circumstances, it’s normal that the coaching staff will suggest a few additions to their squad.

They submitted their wish list and we are in conversations with the players and their representatives.

We are, however, not in a position to disclose names of those players at the moment,” said Moyo. — @ZililoR
