AFTER establishing itself as one of Harare’s most popular nostalgia-themed entertainment events, the monthly R&B Dancehall Lovers concert is expanding to Bulawayo as organisers seek to grow the brand and reach more music lovers across Zimbabwe.
Since its launch, the event has attracted thousands of fans each month, earning a reputation as a must-attend gathering for lovers of classic R&B and dancehall hits from the 1990s and early 2000s. Its success has now prompted organisers to take the experience beyond the capital, with the inaugural Bulawayo edition set for August 29 at a restaurant in the city.

Before making the trip to the City of Kings, the event will host its regular Harare edition on August 10.
Founded out of a passion for timeless music, R&B Dancehall Lovers was created to fill a gap in Zimbabwe’s entertainment scene, which has largely been dominated by contemporary genres.
Organiser DJ Juice said the concept was born from the need to create a platform where fans of old-school music could relive cherished memories while enjoying quality entertainment.
“The main reason was to create an experience centered on music that never goes out of style. We wanted to provide a platform where people could enjoy the classics, reconnect with old memories and experience quality entertainment in a mature and welcoming atmosphere,” he said.
The event has steadily grown into a regular feature on Harare’s entertainment calendar, attracting people from different age groups who gather to dance, socialise and sing along to songs that defined their youth.
Zimbabwe has long embraced R&B and dancehall music, with international and regional classics continuing to resonate with audiences despite the rise of newer genres such as Amapiano and Afro-beats.
For many patrons, the event is about more than music. One regular attendee, who requested anonymity, said R&B Dancehall Lovers had become an important part of his social calendar.
“I come here because the music takes me back to my younger days. The songs bring back good memories and it is also a good place to meet friends and relax after a busy month,” he said.
Beyond entertaining audiences, the organisers say the initiative also supports local venues and the broader entertainment industry by creating opportunities for collaboration while showcasing Zimbabwe’s capacity to host memorable lifestyle events.
The expansion into Bulawayo marks a significant milestone for the brand, with organisers expressing confidence that the city’s vibrant entertainment culture will embrace the nostalgic music experience.
