THE Air Force of Zimbabwe Charity Fund yesterday donated clothing and blankets worth thousands of dollars to the needy in Gwanda District’s Wenlock area. The beneficiaries were drawn from wards six, seven, eight and 21. More than 250 less privileged people that included orphans, the elderly and the physically challenged benefited from the donation.
Handing over the donation to the villagers at Sitezi, Air Force of Zimbabwe Chief of Staff Operations Air Vice Marshal Elson Moyo said in Matabeleland South Province the Charity Fund had selected disadvantaged people from Gwanda.
“Our main objective is directed to the disadvantaged members of society that include the elderly and orphans. We have been donating to the needy in all the provinces throughout the country and here in Matabeleland South we have identified people who come from this area. We hope the donation would help improve lives and our wish is to continue supporting the less privileged people in our communities,” he said.
Air Vice-Marshal Moyo said the donation had nothing to do with politics but was aimed at improving the lives of the disadvantaged.
“We are purely here as a Charity Fund and we have nothing to do with politics,” he said.
The donation included clothes, shoes, jackets and blankets among other items.
The Charity Fund started two years ago with the support of the business community and is targeted at supporting the less privileged.
The Air Force of Zimbabwe has over the years been involved in charity activities that include supporting the education of less privileged children.
