Air Marshal Shiri said the donation was part of efforts by the AFZ to reach out to the underprivileged children in the country.
“As the Air Force of Zimbabwe we have an obligation to do everything within our means to alleviate the suffering of underprivileged children,” he said.
“Once a child is educated, they are empowered and new horizons will open for them. Education facilitates for children to have a brighter future and be great anywhere in the world.”
He hailed President Mugabe’s people-centred policies such as the provision of education to all, which has helped the country to attain the highest literacy rate in Africa.
However, he said despite the achievement, many pupils still faced challenges in accessing basic needs and learning materials.
“While we have scored this milestone, there are, however, some pupils around Zimbabwe who still face challenges in terms of accessing basics such as school uniforms and tuition fees,” he said.
“As the patron of the Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe Charity Fund, I have prioritised supporting the education sector in order to complement government’s efforts.”
The AFZ Charity Fund had so far assisted a number of schools which included Mazunga Primary in Matepatepa and many others across the country. He said the AFZ would soon officially open Murongwe Primary School in the Dande area, which was built with funds from the Charity Fund.
“Our work will certainly not end in Murongwe. We intend to continue with charity programmes until we are satisfied that we have covered the breadth of Zimbabwe,” he said.
Businessman Mr Kenneth Musanhi also contributed donations to Ran Mine School.
