THE Airforce of Zimbabwe has started civil works on the construction of a clinic in the Malibeng area under Beitbridge West as part of its community development initiatives to bridge service delivery gaps in areas where there are deficiencies in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision of not leaving any place or anyone behind.
Malibeng Clinic is set to service close to 8 000 villagers who are currently travelling for over 20km to the nearest health care facility.
Speaking during a groundbreaking ceremony held at Malibeng today, AFZ commander, Air Marshal Jacob John Nzvede, said the project was part of their Defence Forces Day charity projects.
He said the clinic would go a long way in addressing health care service delivery challenges in the area.
“We are building the clinic with the help of our partners as part of our build up to the Defence Forces Day,” said Air Marshal Nzvede.
“This is funded by the AFZ charity fund. This clinic belongs to us and we expect to complete it in the shortest possible time”.
Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Albert Nguluvhe said the intervention by AFZ was in line with the President’s Brick by Brick model that enhances rural transformation.
He encouraged community members in the area to support the project with labour and related material resources.
Minister Nguluvhe said the transformation of Zimbabwe needs citizens to fully participate from the grassroots level.
Beitbridge West legislator, Cde Thusani Ndou, thanked AFZ for the clinic.
“We are grateful to the Airforce of Zimbabwe for responding to our call and this is a high impact project that will transform many lives, not only in health care services, but in terms of skills transfer to locals throughout the project’s implementation phases,” he said.
Beitbridge district development coordinator, Mrs Sikhangezile Mafu, said so far the district has 20 rural clinics, six urban clinics and one referral hospital against a rising population.
