The Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) has deployed its medical staff in Mberengwa under Chief Negove to help in the ongoing vaccination programme as part of the Defence Forces celebrations.

The AFZ also donated an assortment of medication and medical kits to Negove Clinic through Commander AFZ, Air Marshall Elson Moyo.

Air Marshall Moyo is patron of the Air Force Charity Fund.

The clinic was also refurbished and equipped by the AFZ a few years back.

The donation was handed over to the clinic by Josiah Tungamirai Airbase Commander, Air Commodore Marcelino Jaya, on Wednesday.

Speaking during the handover of donations, Air Commodore Jaya said the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) will continue to work with the communities to improve their livelihoods.

“We meet again when we, as the ZDF are busy working on various life-improving projects within our communities across the country. Every year as a prelude to our Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day in August, we dedicate the first week of that month to go out and do assistance work around communities across Zimbabwe,” he said.

Air Commodore Jaya said the ZDF medical staff was also deployed in Mberengwa for a week from August 1 to assist in the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

He bemoaned the low uptake of vaccines in rural areas, hence the idea to deploy more medical staff.

“I am happy to be here once again at Negove Clinic on behalf of the Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe, and patron of the Air Force Charity Fund, Air Marshall Elson Moyo to give to the clinic an assortment of medical items that we sourced from friends and well-wishers.

“We must accept that it is not an easy undertaking to extend a helping hand during such hard times when the nation and world at large are so strained by this ravaging Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Members of the ZDF medical team will also be participating under the Government vaccination programme, which is meant to reduce new Covid-19 infections. “Our medical staff moved into the communities from 1 August and shall be in Mberengwa for a week. It has been observed that there is low uptake of Covid-19 vaccination in rural areas, hence we are here to help in the programme to make sure more people are vaccinated,” he said.

Air Commodore Jaya implored villagers to be wary of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic and observe all protocols as announced by Government and the World Health Organisation.
