AFZ to continue supporting Govt initiatives

The Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) remains committed to complementing Government efforts in developing marginalised communities as the country gears towards achieving an upper middle income status by 2030.

The sentiments were made by AFZ senior officer Air Commodore Elisha Masakadza on the sidelines of the AFZ community assistance medical outreach programme at Idube Clinic in Hwedza district.

The AFZ also used the programme to distribute medical equipment and medicines to clinics in the district.

Air Commodore Masakadza said the relationship between the AFZ and other security organisations with communities was of paramount importance in the development trajectory of Zimbabwe.

“The notion of fish and water, although it dates back to hundreds of years, is still equally true.

“The soldiers can only perform better if they are harmoniously existing with their communities,” he said.

“Against this, as the Air Force of Zimbabwe we remain committed to complimenting Government initiatives in developing marginalised communities as espoused by President Mnangagwa’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind in the quest to develop our nation.”

Air Commodore Masakadza said over the years, the AFZ had extensively reached out to disadvantaged communities across the whole nation in order to assist them with the needs they required.

“Evidently, we have rendered assistance to communities over the years, in a vision to transform communities,” he said. “As the Air Force of Zimbabwe we are confident that Vision 2030 will be attained as we are working progressively for the same purpose with communities.”

Zimbabwe Defence Forces began its Community Assistance Week on Monday where projects are handed over to their communities and it is also part of its peacetime mandate to foster development in the country by extending a helping hand to communities.

This year’s ZDF completed projects also includes classroom blocks and four refurbished classroom blocks at Gurungweni Secondary School in Chikombedzi District of Masvingo Province, Mbamba Clinic in Tsholotsho District of Matabeleland North and Tongogara Clinic in Shurugwi in Midlands.
