The opposition CCC’s shortcomings and cowardice continue to be laid bare, as the famous adage goes: “lies have short legs” and this is becoming ever so evident in the case of the opposition.
During his manifesto launch, CCC leader Nelson Chamisa claimed that if he was to win the upcoming harmonised elections, he would call American President Joe Biden and direct him to remove sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.
This is a blatant and unfortunate lie on all fronts as even his predecessor, the late Morgan Tsvangirai, could not get the sanctions lifted once he was the country’s Prime Minister.
The unfortunate reality and concept that Chamisa has ineptly failed to grasp is that the Americans will only lift the punitive measures once all the decolonial gains have been reversed.
The gains which our forefathers fought unflinchingly for, the gains in which our founding fathers laid down their lives for.
If I was speaking in my Shona language I would say “Ngaapinde hake mukomana? Achipinda kupi?” because he continues to showcase his immaturity and naivety, something Zimbabwe does not need at all! The country is on an upward trajectory on all fronts, so why would anyone vote for slavery?
Political commentator Rutendo Matinyarare articulated the issue quite sublimely, noting that the beleaguered CCC leader had not only admitted that sanctions were detrimental to Zimbabweans, but he had expressed a gross lack of maturity and love for Zimbabwe.
“The very first thing is that he admits that there are US sanctions on the Zimbabwean people yet for many years has denied that the US and the West have got sanctions that are hindering the progress of Zimbabwe.
“He admits that sanctions bring regime change that is why he says that sanctions are essential and the day that he wins elections his going to ask Biden to remove sanctions and immediately investors will come to Zimbabwe and he can begin to rebuild.
“He is saying this because he knows that sanctions and not a leadership crisis is what is causing investment not to come in and making it difficult to rebuild.
“Many people have said that sanctions on Zimbabwe are there to bring regime change and when you read the policy statement of ZDERA, the statement is very clear. It says that the ZDERA is there to assist the Zimbabwean people to achieve democratic change, it doesn’t say it is there to achieve democracy but achieve change,” he said.
Various Western and American scholars are on record as saying that sanctions were truly a tool to effect regime change and not to promote democracy.
To begin with, democracy is not a Western or American invention or concept.
Secondly, when will it become apparent to them that Zimbabwe is persevering even under the yoke of punitive measures?
Sanctions are evidently a bygone to Zimbabwe and the country will stop at nothing as it continues on its developmental trajectory.
“In September 1999, Western countries went to multilateral institutions where their directors are leading and they asked them to stop giving the Zimbabwean Government loans and two months after denying the Zimbabwean Government these loans, even though they had not defaulted on payment, they formed the MDC six months before the elections in Zimbabwe to ensure that this project would stop creating jobs and development to force people to vote for MDC,” notes Matinyarare.
“When the elections came, the MDC got 56 seats and Zanu PF got 61 only four more than the MDC but not enough to have the majority in Parliament to change the laws and stop land reform.
“The American were not happy with this, so now they wanted to make sure in the Presidential elections of 2002 Robert Mugabe would not be elected, so they added ZDERA so that Zimbabwe could not even get debt cancellation.
“Now Professor Beomseob Park in an American University wrote that sanctions assist opposition parties to take power from incumbent governments, he even used the MDC as a case study in which he says that for the MDC to get into Parliament they were assisted by the Zimbabwean Government being denied loans by the IMF and international development agencies which helped MDC to get 56 in Parliament.
“He also goes on to say Morgan Tsvangirai got 43 percent of the votes because of the ZDERA sanctions.”
It is as lucid as day that Chamisa knows that sanctions bring regime change and the suffering of the generality of Zimbabweans.
It baffles the mind to know that someone would wish for a Zimbabwe in which people were reduced to nothing by colonial powers.
“So, this is clear confirmation that Chamisa knows that sanctions bring regime change. There is a study by Professor Park that sanctions bring regime change and assist the opposition to rig elections, so the question is why does Sadc continue to allow the CCC to contest elections in Zimbabwe when they know that the sanctions are violently killing Zimbabweans, depriving them of healthcare, education and food, they are persecuting Zimbabweans in order for them to vote for the opposition which is confirmed by Chamisa himself who says that sanctions are essential,” said Matinyarare.
“How does Chamisa then expect to ask Biden to remove sanctions when he wins power yet when Morgan Tsvangirai was assisted to win power and became the Prime Minister and his Deputy Arthur Mutambara, but when they asked them to remove the sanctions, both the US and the UK did not remove them.
“Does Chamisa realise that sanctions can only be removed when he totally reverses decolonisation, takes land and puts it back into the hands of few Europeans, takes the mines and the resources and makes all those Zimbabweans who got mines and who have become millionaires and make them slaves again of a few white companies who then begin to own the mines. Is he willing to do that?
“Does he know that he has to reverse all the bids and tenders that were gotten by black Zimbabweans like Econet when they got the cellular network licence, they will have to cancel those licences and rebid so that European and South African companies can have opportunities to win those bids and to control the Zimbabwean economy.
“Does he know he has to break all the black owned banks so that white and European bans begin to control the Zimbabwean economy again?
“Is Chamisa ready for that?”
It is then time that Chamisa realises that Zimbabwe will never be a colony again and will never bend to the whims of foreigners.
As President Mnangagwa continues to reiterate: “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo, igotongwa nevene vayo, igonamatigwa nevene vayo”.
