ONE of Tanzania’s celebrated gospel ensembles, Agape Gospel Band, arrives in Harare today ahead of their performance at the God The Lifter of Men (GTLM) concert set tomorrow at the Harare International Conference Centre.
The worship event, hosted by Zimbabwe’s gospel power couple, Minister Ellard and Sharon Cherayi, is expected to be one of the most spiritually charged gatherings of the year.
Originally planned for Belgravia Sports Club, the concert was moved to the HICC following an overwhelming response from gospel lovers eager to take part in a night of deep worship, music, and fellowship.
Joining the visiting Tanzanian group on stage will be some of Zimbabwe’s finest gospel talents, including Minister Michael Mahendere, Takesure Zamar Ncube, Elianna Makombe, and Joyfull Praise, among others.
In an interview ahead of the event, Minister Ellard Cherayi expressed excitement and humility at hosting such a large-scale gospel gathering.
“This event is not just a concert – it’s a divine assignment,” he said.
“We’ve prayed, planned, and worked hard to make GTLM a night where lives will be transformed and faith will be reignited.”
His wife Minister Sharon Cherayi shared similar sentiments, highlighting the heart behind the event.
“Our desire is to create a space where people can encounter God in a deep, personal way,” she said.
“We believe that worship has the power to lift people from despair to hope, from doubt to purpose.
“That’s what GTLM is about.”
For the Cherayis, the upcoming concert is more than just another event – it’s a defining moment in their joint ministry.
“Over the past few years, the couple has become known for their powerful worship collaborations, passionate performances, and chemistry both on and off the stage.
“Hosting an international act such as Agape Gospel Band marks a major milestone in their journey, and many in the gospel fraternity see this as a litmus test for their growing influence in the local and regional gospel scene.
“We know all eyes are on us.
“But we’re not doing this for applause – we’re doing it for the Kingdom. If people leave feeling renewed in spirit, that’s success to us.”
The God The Lifter of Men concert was first conceived by the Cherayis in 2022 as a platform to unite worshippers and artists through music that uplifts the soul and glorifies God.
Each edition has grown in scale and impact, and this year’s inclusion of Agape Gospel Band signifies an important step toward building stronger regional connections within the African gospel community.
Known across East Africa for hits such as “Nimeona Upendo” and “Kuna Nguvu,” Agape Gospel Band is revered for their powerful vocals, energetic performances, and spirit-filled message. Their participation in this year’s event is expected to draw a diverse audience and infuse the night with a unique East African worship flavor.
“We are thrilled to have Agape with us,” said Sharon.
“Their music resonates with our vision — lifting hearts and spreading joy through authentic worship.”
As excitement builds across church circles and social media, all signs point to a memorable night of praise and worship at the HICC.
With a fine line-up, a powerful message and an atmosphere of faith and joy, God The Lifter of Men concert promises to be more than just a musical event.
“We’re trusting God for a move that will touch this nation,” Minister Ellard said.
“This is His show, His glory, and His people. We’re just honoured to be vessels.”
