GROUPS of selected orphanages are set to benefit from proceeds of a charity golf tournament to be hosted by the United Family International Church (UFIC) in Harare this week.
The charity event is aimed at raising funds for the underprivileged. A brainchild of Ruth Emmanuel-Makandiwa, the Agape Family Care (AFC) Charity Golf Tournament is set to be an annual event, starting with the first edition slated for September 2 at Chapman Golf Club.
“AFC is the brainchild of Ruth Emmanuel-Makandiwa. Up to now, she has been the sole benefactor of every program and this is our small way of chipping in,” said UFIC spokesperson Prime Kufakunesu.
“Agape Family Care looks after a number of orphanages, old people’s homes, and the general public in need of help. So the beneficiaries of this tournament will be decided by the AFC committee,” he said.
Kufa said they were expecting at least 120 golfers to grace the event, with invitations having been extended to beginners as well.
“The response from people has been amazing. We intended to have at least 80 players, but due to the overwhelming response, we have since moved to 120. The entry fee will be US$50 per player, but there will be huge prizes to be won. These include household items, garage equipment and a few other prizes,” Kufa said.
