along the Nyamapanda highway, a few kilometres from the border with Mozambique.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Wednesday, Agribank chief executive Mr Sam Malaba said the move was part of efforts to bring banking to rural parts of the country.
“We are looking at financial inclusion by taking our bank to the marginalised communities,” he said.
“This area between the border and Mutoko had no bank. People had to go to Mutoko or Harare for banking services.”
Mr Malaba said Agribank was hoping to cash in on the business activities that thrive around the border post.
He implored all business people in the area to fully utilise the bank.
“We are looking at overall businesses here not just farmers to utilise this bank.
There is a lot of business activity around this area so on our part it is a good business decision,” he said.
Mr Malaba added that they would open more branches in “strategic” areas that are currently unbanked. He said the bank was presently carrying out feasibility studies in Chivhu, along the Masvingo highway, with the view of opening a branch there by September this year.
Mudzi North legislator Mr Newton Kachepa attended the opening ceremony. – New Ziana.
