THE government has launched an agricultural information centre in the Avoca area of Insiza District to support research trials and demonstrate best farming practices and technologies.

This initiative is designed to help smallholder farmers tackle challenges faced in Zimbabwe’s arid regions.
The centre will provide services to seven wards within the district.

Speaking during the commissioning of the information centre, Director for Training in the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Mr Sibangilizwe Dlodlo said the centre will augment various programmes and strategies that have been implemented by Government to boost the agricultural sector.
“This centre is more than just a building – it is a hub of innovation, learning, and collaboration activities between our agriculture business advisors and farmers. It further seeks to strengthen the vital relationship between agricultural business advisors (extension officers) and the farmers who are at the heart of Zimbabwe’s economic rural development.
“At this centre, research-proven and good agricultural practices will be translated into practical solutions that farmers can adopt in their fields and livestock enterprises. The centre will also mobilise farmers through modern-day farmer field schools (FFS) model by providing a platform where knowledge is not only shared but demonstrated in real time,” he said.
