AGRIPUT Solar, a Zimbabwean clean energy enterprise, is leading a grassroots energy revolution that is transforming rural communities of Manicaland, empowering women and youths, and driving inclusive economic growth.
From solar lanterns to productive use solutions, Agriput Solar is proving that clean energy is, not just about lighting homes, it is about lighting up livelihoods and empowering communities.
Founded in 2022 by a woman entrepreneur, Ms Rutendo Faith Mapisa, who personally experienced the hardships of energy poverty, Agriput Solar has grown into a national force for sustainable development.
“I started Agriput Solar because in our communities we struggle with candles, fossil fuels and firewood as the main sources of energy, though rather unsustainable. Our mission is to bring dignity, opportunity, and sustainable clean energy to every corner of Zimbabwe,” said Ms Mapisa.
The company employs women and youths within communities, creating jobs and building local capacity.
Its product portfolio includes solar lanterns, home systems, farm solar solutions, solar generators, mobile charging kits, cooling, and solar powered appliances for businesses.
The company also offers zero deposit for civil servants, lay-bye, pay as you go payment models, making solar energy accessible even to low income households.
“We are, not just selling solar products and solutions, we are building futures,” the founder added. “Our agents are community champions, and our financing model ensures no one is left behind.”
Agriput Solar was recently recognised as one of the top three solar lantern providers globally by 60 Decibels, an independent organisation that measures how products improve people’s lives.
This recognition came after a survey of over 79 000 energy users worldwide. Customers in Zimbabwe shared that Agriput’s solar products had significantly improved their daily lives. They found the products easy to use and appreciated the company’s support when issues arose. Importantly, Agriput has reached many households in remote areas that previously had limited or no access to electricity—helping bridge the energy gap in a way that complements national development goals.
“These findings affirm that our model is not just innovative, it’s inclusive,” said the founder. “We are reaching the people who need energy the most.”
As Zimbabwe moves toward Vision 2030, Agriput Solar remains committed to powering progress through clean energy, climate resilience, and inclusive growth.
“We are just getting started,” the founder concluded. “With the sun on our side and communities behind us, the future is bright.”
Agriput Solar invites NGOs, government agencies, the private sector, and investors to join hands in expanding access to clean energy across Zimbabwe. Together, wecan scale impact, empower communities, and build a resilient, inclusive energy future.
