Ah-Sat given run for their money

So spirited were the newcomers that at one time it looked as if the invincible Ah-Sat were going to taste their first defeat in more than 20 games.
Maisonic’s heroics will now     give hope to other teams in the league that Ah-Sat can be beaten after all.
“These guys are really good and I wonder why they have not been winning games, they will certainly cause a few upsets,” said Ah-Sat captain Wayne Brandt, who is also the league chairperson.

The game was witnessed by Ah-Sat’s rivals, Highlanders, who were also surprised by the performance of Maisonic, an off-shoot of Archers, themselves in a mean mood on the night as they hammered gold miners                   How Mine A 28-11 at Archers Sports Club. Archers were probably boosted by a further donation of playing shirts by Vaiton Refrigeration, which last week availed a season’s sponsorship package. The team now has a home-and-away kit as well as a training kit, making them the most flamboyant in the league, followed by Bosso and Ah-Sat.

Perhaps the miners were        being punished for coming late and had Archers captain Mkhululi Dube chosen to be mean, the match would have been a walkover but it was not. Instead the players declared that they will wait until their opponents came.
The home team’s Benjamin Ncube was the evening’s top player, hitting a 180 while at Maisonic there were a massive eight 140 match plays coming from Ah-Sat.

Brandt and Siphetha Sibanda hit two apiece.
At Zimbabwe Saints clubhouse, visiting Fairbridge showed no respect for their hosts, Zimbabwe Saints, hammering them 16-23.
Meanwhile, Highlanders clubhouse will play host to a ladies’ Easter Holidays Championships trials on Saturday.

Top provincial ladies like Bosso’s Sheron Sitsha, Parkview Kanka, Nancy Mlambo, Wisewaters’ Merlin Dah Bafana and Railstars, Susan Chizema are all expected to take part in the trials.

Last Saturday, a 24-member men’s team was selected and they will meet with the provincial leadership today for a few briefings.
