Eddie Cyprianos, the Matabeleland Amateur Swimming Board (MASB) chairperson confirmed this development yesterday.
“We have 38 swimmers who will be leaving on Friday for the Junior Swimming Championships that will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Les Brown Pool in Harare,” said Cyprianos.
Expectations are high that the swimmers will do the city proud.
Matabeleland team coach Alice Mayger was optimistic that her charges would do well.
“Since we have been active for close to seven months now our swimmers are quite fit and ready to compete in this competition and I am hopeful that we will bring a lot of medals,” she said.
The girls will be captained by Jessica McAllister while Dale Bruce will lead the boys.
The two captains will be expected to lead by example after they put up a good show in the Senior Swimming Championships that took place in Bulawayo last month.
As for the rest of the team it is a compact unit that has great swimmers who will be expected to bring glory to Matabeleland.
