Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Richard Moyo, has commended the country’s air traffic controllers for their critical role in ensuring the safety of millions of travellers who visit Victoria Falls and other destinations across Zimbabwe each year.

Speaking during the official opening of the 36th International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA) Africa and Middle East Regional Meeting in Victoria Falls on Monday, Minister Moyo said the success of the country’s tourism and aviation industries is built on the professionalism and reliability of air traffic controllers.

“Here in Victoria Falls, our thriving tourism and aviation sectors owe much of their success to the dependable and quality air traffic services that safeguard millions of travellers each year,” said Minister Moyo.

He commended the aviation professionals for maintaining the highest standards of safety amid growing passenger traffic through the country’s airports, describing it as a testament to their dedication and skill.

Minister Moyo also highlighted the aviation industry’s contribution to the national development agenda, noting that it plays a key role in achieving President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030.

“The growth of aviation is central to our efforts to industrialise, modernise, and attract investment and tourism,” he said.

He urged delegates attending the conference to use the gathering as a platform to share innovative ideas, strengthen collaboration, and experience the natural wonders of Victoria Falls.

Minister Moyo said it was an honour for Zimbabwe, and Matabeleland North in particular, to host the high-profile meeting, which brings together aviation experts and controllers from across Africa and the Middle East.

“Victoria Falls may be modest in size, but it stands tall in significance — known for its unmatched natural beauty, vibrant tourism, and warm hospitality,” he added.

The IFATCA regional meeting is focusing on strategies to improve air navigation safety, enhance operational efficiency, and adapt to emerging technologies within the aviation industry.
