THE revival of Air Zimbabwe is gathering momentum, with the national airline expected to expand its domestic network while pursuing additional international routes, including Dubai and Beijing, the Mutapa Investment Fund (MIF) has said.

MIF representative, Dr Forbers Kanongwe said the airline was positioning itself to increase its presence in both the domestic and international aviation markets as part of its ongoing revival.
Dr Kanongwe was delivering a presentation at the Zimbabwe Economic Development Conference (ZEDCON) in Bulawayo on Thursday morning.
“Air Zim, it is evident from all of us that it is being revived,” said Dr Kanongwe said.

The airline has recently resumed flights to destinations such as Masvingo, supporting increased connectivity during major events, while also operating flights to Mutare.
“We have been flying to Masvingo recently for the Sanganai. We are flying in Mutare,” he said.
The expansion of domestic services comes as Zimbabwe seeks to strengthen internal connectivity and improve access to tourism and business destinations.
Dr Kanongwe said Air Zimbabwe was also rebuilding its international footprint, with the airline already operating services to London.
“We are now in London. Soon we will be actually congesting the local market, the domestic, and even the international,” he said.
He said the airline was also considering additional international destinations, pointing to Dubai and Beijing as potential routes.
“Soon we will be talking about the Dubai flight, something that is on the cooking, and even Beijing,” said Dr Kanongwe.
The planned expansion comes at a time when Zimbabwe is seeking to position aviation as a key enabler of tourism, trade, investment and broader economic activity.
Improved air connectivity is expected to facilitate the movement of tourists, businesspeople and investors while opening additional links between Zimbabwe and major international commercial centres.
For the MIF, the revival of Air Zimbabwe forms part of broader efforts to unlock value from strategic State assets and strengthen commercially viable operations.
The expansion of the airline’s route network could also support the country’s tourism growth ambitions by improving access to key destinations and providing additional international gateways for visitors.
