Airline plans Victoria Falls-Joburg flights by December

LOW-COST airline, Fastjet Zimbabwe, says it would re-introduce flights between Victoria Falls International Airport and OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa early December.

The new service would enhance connectivity to one of the country’s prime resort destinations following re-opening of the skies since the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country early this year. Recently, the airline announced the resumption of regional flights between Bulawayo and Johannesburg following the lifting of the Covid-19 pandemic-induced travel restrictions between Zimbabwe and South Africa. In a statement, Fastjet Zimbabwe said the flight schedule for the planned route was now on with set fare prices.

“Fastjet Zimbabwe is pleased to announce the re-introduction of flights between Victoria Falls, International Airport and Johannesburg, OR Tambo International Airport from Thursday 3 December 2020.

“The new flight schedule will operate three times per week between the two cities on a Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, departing from Johannesburg OR Tambo International at 11:10 arriving in Victoria Falls at 12:50,” it said. The return flight will depart Victoria Falls at

13:20 arriving at 14:55 at OR Tambo International Airport.

Flights will be operated on the company’s 50-seater Embraer ERJ145 aircraft. One of the Fastjet executives, Ed Berry, was quoted as saying: “We are pleased to be starting this route and to be working closely with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, travel service providers and the local communities in contributing to build a post Covid-19 strong and resilient tourism sector for Victoria Falls.”
