A COPACABANA airtime vendor is being accused of fraud worth $35 million.

Godfrey Badza (43) is being accused alongside his five accomplices — Daizy Hazvinavarwi, Aleta Shanido, James Chibuwe, Tineyi Munosunama and Elisha Manenge, who are still at large.

The complainant was fooled into thinking that the group wanted local currency, in exchange for US$6 060, to purchase medicine from a nearby pharmacy.

The six had no intention of fulfilling the deal.

Badza and his crew quickly disappeared after receiving the bank transfer, but witnesses had identified him and helped get him arrested.

Badza confessed that he was part of the deal and indicated that he had given the hard currency to someone else.

He was remanded in custody to December 12.

Zebediah Bofu appeared for the State.
