Transport Communication and Infrastructural Development permanent secretary Mr Munesu Munodawafa said the airline would be ready by the time of the general assembly.
“We are working on increasing flight frequency especially the Harare-Victoria Falls route.
“This will enhance Air Zimbabwe’s ability to transport to Victoria Falls, all delegates who would have landed in Harare,” he said.
Mr Munodawafa said plans were also afoot to increase frequency on the Victoria Falls-Johannesburg route.
“We know that OR Tambo Airport in South Africa is a hub of many international airlines, thus we want to take advantage of that and fly delegates and tourists direct to Victoria Falls,” he said.
Foreign airlines, with the exception of South African Airways, are not licensed to fly to Victoria Falls.
“Airzim will take advantage of that to fly delegates from airlines flying into Zimbabwe like Emirates and (Dutch airline) KLM to Victoria Falls.”
Over the years the national airline has faced viability challenges with its debt now standing at US$188 million. — New Ziana.
