AIR Zimbabwe says the shortage of jet A1 fuel that affected its operations last week has eased following improved supplies.
On Friday, scores of Air Zimbabwe passengers were stranded at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International and Harare International Airports after the airline reportedly ran out of jet fuel.
“Air Zimbabwe wishes to advise all its valued customers that the fuel situation that affected its operations during the past week has since normalised,” the airline’s public relations manager, Shingi Dhliwayo, said in a statement.
She said the flight delays experienced last week were due to the non-availability of jet A1 fuel from suppliers.
“The flight delays were as a result of non-availiability of jet A1 fuel from suppliers who are licensed to supply the product for all airlines flying to Zimbabwe.
“These shortages also affected all airports in Zimbabwe and some in the region.
“However, the fuel suppliers have since confirmed that jet A1 fuel supplies are now back to normal,” she said.
Due to the fuel supply situation experienced last week, Harare bound Air Zimbabwe passengers at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport were on Friday delayed for more than eight hours.
Dhliwayo said despite the fuel challenges, the national flag carrier managed to fulfil all its operational obligations without any flight cancellations.
“The airline would like to thank all its stakeholders for the support as the teams worked tirelessly to find alternate fuel sources and these efforts helped minimise flight disruptions. Air Zimbabwe regrets any inconveniences caused by these shortages and would like to thank all its customers for their unwavering support,” she said.
