THE family of actress Maggie Benedict who was arrested for allegedly stealing a packet of headache tablets says it will fight to clear her name. Benedict plays Akhona in the television soapie Generations.
Shoprite Checkers is accusing the actress of stealing the packet of tablets at their Cresta Shopping Mall on Wednesday. Benedict appeared in court on Thursday morning and her bail conditions have been extended to 28 January when she will be back in court. Eyewitness News spoke to her brother Abel Benedict who said the accusations were ludicrous.
“Why would you spend R100 buying other things at the shop and then steal something for R17? It doesn’t make sense, but unfortunately for Checkers common sense is not that common for them and they pay peanuts because they hire monkeys.”
Maggie was born in Pretoria and studied music, dance and theatre at Pretoria Tech (Tshwane University of Technology).
She has appeared in productions like Showboat and Goldilocks and The Three Bears at the South African State Theatre in Tshwane.
Maggie also works as an ambassador for the Walt Disney Company.
On TV, she has appeared on Snitch, Binneland, The Mating Game and 7de Laan. She was also a presenter on the daytime show Lifestyle. — Dailymail.mobi and eyewitness news
