RESIDENTS of Dzivaresekwa are living in fear of sparking electricity cables that are posing a safety hazard as the rainy season approaches.

The sight of flickering sparks coming from the overhead cables has left residents worried about the safety of their homes.

One resident, Trevor Mapika, said they fear for their families’ safety and suspect that the wind was causing a fault on the cables.

“I was awakened by a spark sound outside and I assumed it was a light bulb as it was very bright. When I went outside, I saw sparks on the overhead electric cables.

“I fear for my family as I do not know whether this will not affect our houses,” said Mapika.

Tinotenda Sunayi called on the authorities to assess the situation and take action before the rainy season brings disaster.

“Recently we experienced some showers and the rainy season might be early and if this situation is not attended to, we will have a disaster.

“ZESA has been contacted, but no action has been taken yet,” said Tinotenda.
