THE hot conditions did not distract Alexandra Sports Club B team from defeating Avondale 21-11 to win the final of the Bob Mitchell Bowls tournament at City Bowling Club at the weekend.

Sixteen teams took part.

The Alex side lost only one match and recorded 10 points.

Alex were represented by two men’s teams and three women’s sides.

Austin Kuparu said playing for Alex was the best thing that ever happened to his life.

“Our team performed very well and I am glad that we were picking up our points and that is why we won,” said Kupara.

Highlands Sports Club, which was under the guidance of Tom Craven, finished third while Avondale were fourth.

“This tournament is a major boost for the Nationals which will be held during the Easter holidays, it is very important because we are able to assess were we are,” said Craven.

The women also competed in the Ethel Thomas where Highlands won the final after an impressive show on the green.
