Alexio Kawara celebrated his birthday in style last week when he staged a free show for his childhood friends and neighbours at Chitubu Shopping Centre in Glen Norah.

The show is one of the inspirational gigs that the musician has set up ahead of the Harare Lockdown gig set for Harare International Conference Centre where he will share the stage with Mafikizolo, Roberto, Oliver Mtukudzi and Jah Prayzah.

The gig takes place on December 18 and Kawara says he is gearing up for the big concert.

He said holding a free show on his birthday in his neighbourhood brought him closer to people that have supported him since he began his music career.

The fans, he said, would inspire him to show his best at the Harare Lockdown event where he will have to do his best to make lasting impressions because he will be performing with big names on local and regional scenes.

Kawara performed at the annual Lockdown concert last year and promised to do his best this year.

“People should expect an excellent act this year. Last year people enjoyed our act at the event and we have gone a step higher this year. We have the best to offer. Our fans have been talking to us about their expectations and we will do what they want. The show I did in my neighbourhood showed me the love that my fans have for our music and we will have the best for them,” said Kawara.

Organisers of Harare Lockdown said they have completed preparations and looking forward to an exciting event.

“We have done all the groundwork and we are ready for the day. Local musicians have confirmed their participation while Mafikizolo and Roberto are eagerly waiting to tour Zimbabwe,” said the organisers in a statement.

“Tickets to the show are going for $15 and $25. We will ensure tight security to make the event memorable.”
