THE National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has brought back the romance of the rails, announcing the long-awaited return of passenger trains between Harare and Mutare as well as Bulawayo and Victoria Falls starting today.
Rail lovers can now look forward to scenic night rides, rhythmic tracks, and the timeless magic of train travel.
The iconic locomotives will be plying these routes twice a week, giving travellers a budget-friendly way to explore the country once more.
In a statement, the parastatal said: “The passenger trains between Harare and Mutare as well as Bulawayo and Victoria Falls start operating today. They will be plying these routes twice a week.”
The new timetable brings nostalgia and excitement for many who missed the sound of the train whistle echoing through the night.
According to NRZ, the Harare–Mutare train leaves Harare every Friday at 8PM and arrives in Mutare Saturday at 6AM. The return leg departs Mutare on Sunday at 8PM, reaching the capital Monday morning at 6AM.
For those heading to the majestic falls, the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls train departs Friday at 7PM, arriving at 10AM on Saturday. The return trip leaves Victoria Falls Sunday at 7PM, pulling into Bulawayo at 10AM Monday.
The cherry on top is that it’s easy on the pocket. Economy class fares are just US$5 between Harare and Mutare, and US$9 between Bulawayo and Victoria Falls.
NRZ said the relaunch was part of efforts to “move the nation” and reconnect people through affordable, reliable transport.
