THE Texas Christian University Horned frogs will next week make the great trek to the southern part of the United States of America for the NCAA West Regional Meet, with most eyes fixed on the Zimbabwean trio of Chengetayi Mapaya, Tinotenda Matiyenga and Kundai Maguranyanga.
The three are currently enjoying a purple patch and will be the university’s medal hopefuls at the regional meet slated for May 25 to May 28 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Mapaya recently defended his Big 12 Outdoor title and will be looking to continue his form in the lead-up to the NCAA Outdoor National Championships later this year.
The senior jumped 16,84 metres to place first and notch the second-best mark in the NCAA this season.
He only needed one jump to claim his third Big 12 Outdoor Championship in three seasons.
TCU’s 4x100m relay team also had a good outing at last weekend’s Big 12 competition as they came first and broke the meet record with a time of 38,50 seconds.
The squad of Bryson Stubblefield, Matiyenga, Maguranyanga, and Robert Gregory Jnr ran the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA this season.
As a collective, TCU’s track and field team finished with three gold medals and three bronze medals in the Big 12 championships.
