ALL eyes will be on Sygone when a lean field of six runners are loaded for ultimate test set for the thoroughbred horse at Borrowdale Racecourse this afternoon.
The three-year-old equines are led by the bookmakers favourite Sygone and will battle it out for their final assessment that will take them over 2 400m to determine the winner. The winner will walk away $4 800 richer leaving the other runners to collect $1 600, $1 000 and $600 according to their order of merit.
A win for Sygone and his running mate jockey Colleen Storey will see their names being engraved in the history books of domestic horse racing as one of the few top class teams to win this series event. During the second leg horse racing analyst Sheldene Chant predicted a tight race. True to her prediction from a three-horse length recorded during the first series the second best runner home was just 0,75 horse lengths away.
Also taking into consideration that 400m more will be added to the previous distance punters need to factor that in as well as the fact that in every leg the field has been closing in on the eventual winner. Expected to breathe heavily on Sygone’s neck is one of the contenders to the crown Action Jackson who is trained by Penny Fisher with pilot Ryan Munger directing the proceedings form the saddle.
The field is made up of Three to Tango, Rain Spider, Crown Brewed and Mia Finola who could turn out to be the outsider here.
The first leg was the 1600m Zimbabwe Guineas Race on 10 March followed by the Zimbabwe 2000 Grade (3) race on 7 April. All these three races are run within a specified period of time to test the quality of the runner.
Previous winners of all legs of the Tripple Crown in Zimbabwe are Earl of Surrey, Glen Monarch in 2006, 2017 Solinski and Toff in 1980.
