WHITE City Stadium will host a potentially exhilarating all-female track and field competition on July 5, dubbed Queens with Wigs.

The event aims to showcase the incredible talent of female athletes from across Zimbabwe, with an entry fee of just $2. Participants will compete in a variety of track events, including the 3000m, 100m hurdles, 100m, 1500m, 4×100m, 400m, 800m and 200m, as well as field events such as the Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus and Javelin.
This unique event promises to celebrate women in sport and provide a platform for female athletes to shine.
Bulawayo Athletics Board (BAB) chairperson Watson Madanyika, commented, “It’s fantastic to see a dedicated event for women, as it gives them the recognition they deserve. With the implementation of the electronic timing system and these training opportunities, our athletes are being given the tools to succeed on the international stage. Seeing an event exclusively for women is incredibly important. It not only provides them with the platform to showcase their talents but also encourages young girls to pursue athletics.

This event is a step towards ensuring that women in sport are given the recognition and opportunities they deserve.”
Meanwhile, the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) is preparing for a series of important events and coaching clinics in April. Naaz will host race starter coaching clinics in Bulawayo, Gweru and Harare. These clinics will be followed by the National Junior Championships on April 12 at White City Stadium, where young athletes will compete in a range of events, including sprints, distance races and field events.

The Bulawayo Marathon, sponsored once again, will return after a hiatus, taking place on April 19, at White City Stadium. The marathon, once a flagship event in Zimbabwe’s running calendar, is expected to draw both local and international participants. Registration for the marathon, which opened on 15 January, will close on 15 April, with race numbers available for pick-up in the days leading up to the event.
