All Govt programmes should be monitored: Mupamhanga

Wellington Dengu Herald Reporter
All Government programmes should be monitored and evaluated to avoid corruption, a senior Government official has said.

Addressing the media at the Zimbabwe Evaluation Association (ZEA) conference in Harare yesterday, Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Mr Justin Mupamhanga said the move will ensure productivity and accountability in ministries and Government departments.

“Having identified the gap that there is lack of strong evaluation practices at Government level, there is need to establish partnerships with evaluators to capacitate personnel within the system and increase their understanding,” he said.

“Fulfilment of the evaluation requirements will enhance President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call towards attaining national vision 2030, which advocates for a world free from hunger, diseases and poverty.”

ZEA president Dr Shylock Muyengwa challenged all stakeholders to work tirelessly towards results-based performance.

“We are the think-tank of Government as our collective efforts in monitoring and evaluation are used in policy making by parliamentarians,” he said.  “More work needs to be done across the board in order for the intended beneficiaries of Government programmes to benefit. This is a collective effort from everyone in Zimbabwe in order to promote transparency and accountability.”
