Upcoming Afro Fusion band, All in One, have booked their ticket to the 25th Chibuku Road To Fame national finale after putting a polished act at Mashonaland West provincial competitions at the weekend.
Although the group is still building up and developing new sounds for the future, their style points to a fresh sound in local music.
All in One came tops after shrugging off competition from nine other contestants to walk away with the US$2 500 prize money.
Boom Jazz and Nhapi Tapi came second and third respectively.
For their efforts, the two groups also took home US$1 500 and US$1 000 respectively.
Meanwhile, Midlands-based outfit Core Vibes also booked their place to challenge for the ultimate title at the national finals slated for October 4.
In a refreshing twist meant to rejuvenate the grassroots talent search, this year, groups were expected to go through auditions first before facing off in the provincial contests.
The provincial finals were joined into six episodes of 20 groups with results being announced before moving to the next provincial performances.
“As the country’s leading music talent search, this year’s edition marks a major milestone in nurturing local artistry and giving aspiring musicians a platform to shine.
“This jubilee, the Chibuku brand and the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe celebrate unforgettable music, unforgettable moments and unforgettable stars.
This year’s edition promises an exciting line-up of provincial competitions across the country, bringing communities together through music and offering Chibuku a unique way to engage with its consumers,” said Delta Corporation marketing director, Irimayi Muzorewa.
Muzorewa said their strong appreciation for local music remains a priority.
“The Chibuku brand continues to leverage music and dance to deliver its core purpose of nourishing the bonds of brotherhood amongst its consumers, who have a strong appreciation for music.
“We are excited to see the brand connect meaningfully with communities across the country, while supporting the next generation of rising stars on their journey to recognition and success,” he said.
Chinotimba Beerhall will host finals for Matebeleland North this Saturday while Bulawayo and Matebeleland South search for their winners on September 6.
Harare has been joined with Mashonaland Central at a preliminary round to be held at Makuluwani Bar in Whitehouse.
The grand prize includes a US$15 000 cash prize plus a recording contract.
