concerns that some of the clubs have not yet paid their fees, although the season is almost halfway.
Matches have been suspended for the second round while the province has appealed to the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association for intervention.
“The major problem we have is that we do not have technical officials for our games. We have tried to set up a database of the referees and coaches in the Harare Volleyball League so that we have a standard product.
“But some people are against this idea of registering officials and in the end we do not have a standard product for our game.
“I think in football, the Premier Soccer League have set standards that a coach without a certain qualification will not sit on the bench and this is what we have been trying to do for our sport,” said a source.
The HVL, which is the biggest league in Zimbabwe, could also suffer from still-birth if the 15 teams do not find common ground on the way forward.
Traditional powerhouse Support Unit, JS Harare, Naba, Chapungu, Stanbic Thunder, Jewel Stars, Varsity, ZRP Harare, Black Rhinos and Hawks are supposed to be playing in the elite league while Zimbabwe Prison Services, Morris Depot, Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe are yet to be granted full status.
According to information gathered, slightly more than half of the clubs have paid their US$290 fees to be registered.
“Some clubs have paid half the amounts while other teams have registered but they have not paid. So there is a lot of maladministration that is killing the game,” said the sources.
HVA president, Shadreck Chisoko, yesterday conceded that things were not well.
“At the moment we are getting challenges in that some clubs have not yet paid while other have paid.
“The league committee said about three quarters of the clubs have paid.
“I think the best way for us will be move ahead with the paid up members,” said Chisoko.
Chisoko, in one of his correspondence to the clubs, also revealed that his committee has been rocked by resignations of some members.
Meanwhile, schools from the Harare province are set to converge at Ellis Robbins School for the Greater Harare Volleyball Tournament where the top teams from each district fight for honours.
