All provinces set to have High Court by 2030

Sunday Mail Reporter

JUSTICE, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said all the country’s provinces will have permanent seats of the High Court by 2030.

This is in line with Government’s drive to promote easy access to justice.

Speaking after the commissioning of the Chinhoyi High Court complex in Chinhoyi, Minister Ziyambi said it is one of the strategic focus areas of his ministry to ensure that the citizens are able to access courts close to their homes. The country’s economic blueprint, National Development Strategy 1, calls for the decentralisation of High Courts.

“We are happy that the National Development Strategy 1, which is instructive on the need to decentralise our courts including the High Court, to all the provinces, will soon correct this anomaly.

“Completion of the court within three years and using our own funds was really remarkable.”

Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West Province Mrs Mary Mliswa-Chikoka thanked President Mnangagwa for spearheading devolution.

JSC secretary Mr Walter Chikwanha said completion of the project was achieved through supervision and co-ordination of officials from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works and Chinese contractor Hai Long.

Construction of the multimillion-dollar project started in 2002 and was halted in 2008.

Works resumed again in April 2018 after the Government revived the project.
