PREPARATIONS for this year’s 21st February Movement celebrations gala set for Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera on Sunday are at an advanced stage with more than 30 artistes expected to take to the dance floor.The gala is being held as part of celebrations to mark President Mugabe’s 90th birthday.
The director of urban communications in the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Retired Major Anyway Mutambudzi said the stage was set for the big event.
“All is in place and most artistes have confirmed participation at the event,” he said.
Fireworks are expected with a star studded line up that includes sungura maestro Alick Macheso, Romeso Gasa, Sandra Ndebele, the Chimbetus namely Sulumami, Tryson and Naison, dancehall artistes , Shinsoman, Killa T and Soul Jah Love.
Others are gospel artistes, Mathius Mhere, Pastor Charles and Olivia Charamba. Bulawayo’s own Ndebele said she was ready to thrill fans at the gala.
“This is a big event for our President and we are ready to take our act to Marondera,” said Ndebele.
Last year, thousands turned up for the President’s birthday celebrations at Rujeko Secondary School in Bindura, Mashonaland Central province.
The 21st February Movement celebrations are held annually and provinces take turns to host the event. President Mugabe was born on February 21, 1924 at Kutama Mission in Zvimba, Mashonaland West Province.
