EIGHTEEN top Zimbabwean artistes will come together for a massive bash dubbed the Summer Slam on August 31 at the Rainbow Towers in Harare.
The artistes, who were drawn from different genres that include dancehall, sungura and RnB, will take centre stage when they converge to mark the start of the most eventful season on the country’s entertainment calendar.
Revellers will certainly be in for a thrill when several of these artistes take to the stage where they will be led by contemporary musician Jah Prayzah and dancehall crooner Winky D, undoubtedly two of Zimbabwe’s finest musicians.
Winky D aka Big Man, whose real name is Wallace Chirumuko, has become a household name in dancehall and is currently making waves with the track, “Mafira Kureva”, that was released a few months ago.
The song, which castigates drug abuse among the urban youths, has received mixed reactions from his legions of fans, with some saying Winky was trying to get mileage from non-governmental organisations so that he can get advocacy funding, while others feel he was merely pointing to a serious social vice.
Either way, the truth of the matter is Winky D has been rocking the local entertainment scene and will continue to do so, when he meets 17 other artistes during the Summer Slam bash, that has become an annual event held on the last day of the Harare Agricultural Show.
Performances by the duo will certainly set the pace and mood for several of these artistes who include yesteryear urban groover Trevor Dongo, Jay C and a coterie of renowned local DJs and upcoming musicians.
Little-known artistes Jiggaz, Syda, Jay C and Quonfuzed will also use the platform to promote their brands and market themselves in the show that is organised by award-winning promoter Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions.
It seems all is well with dance hall chanter King Shaddy of the “Mai Huni” fame. The singer will bare it all on stage, weeks after he was battered, bruised by robbers in Highfield.
Popular entertainers Mighty Ducks, Judgment Yard, DJ Nivek, DJ Banks, DJ Squila, and Ash Styles could just be what the doctor ordered for a high-octane and action-packed gig.
After recording success on local radio Star FM, it seems there is no going back for DJ Garry B and Godfatha Templeman whose mission is to spread Zim dancehall beyond the country’s borders.
It is yet to be seen if the pair will rise to the occasion and win hearts of dancehall faithfuls, something they have successfully done and continue to do every week when they grace the radiol station.
The show, being hosted by Rough Mix Entertainment, will run from 12 midday till the early hours of the following day..
