THE Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (Buz) has secured two venues for the 2022 National Club Championships that get underway in Bulawayo this evening.
Khanyisile Sports Centre and Eveline High School will be the venues for the four-day basketball fiesta.
“We have scheduled an opening ceremony on Saturday between 6pm and 8pm.
We are grateful to Eveline who have managed to accommodate some of the teams at their hostels.
We are confident we will have an exciting competition as teams have put in a lot of work in preparing for these finals,” said Bulawayo Basketball Association (Bab) secretary-general Francis Dube.
Defending champions Mercenaries, Foxes, JBC, Raiders and UZ Stars will be competing in the men’s category, with defending champions Hornets, Vixens, Raiders, JBC and UZ Sparks playing in the women’s division.
The southern region will be represented by Southern Mavericks, Lakers and Mzansi Lakers in the ladies’ division while Southern Mavericks is the only confirmed team and qualified by virtue of winning the Bulawayo Basketball Association League.
Winners of the national finals will represent the country in the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
BAL is Africa’s premier men’s basketball league and consists of 12 teams, which qualify through their domestic competition.
The league is a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and International Basketball (FIBA), with sponsorship from Nike and Pepsi.
