All set for Bob ‘87 Super Cup

BATTLE-LINES have now been drawn between Dynamos and bitter rivals CAPS United after the Harare Province Zanu-PF Youth League and a consortium of young business people officially unveiled the silverware for the Bob ’87 Super Cup in the capital yesterday.
The two giants have been picked to clash at Rufaro on Sunday in a match organised as part of efforts to mark President Mugabe’s 87th birthday.
The match also coincides with the Silver Jubilee of the 21st February Movement, which was established in 1986.
The immaculate floating trophy with President Mugabe’s signature engraved on it, is coated in gold while there are 25 miniature gold shields for the winners.
Co-ordinator of the Bob ’87 Super Cup and former Dynamos vice chairman, Stan Kasukuwere, said the losing finalists will settle for the miniature silver shields.
Kasukuwere, however, could not divulge the prize money for the teams saying they were still expecting more financial resources from well-wishers.
“We have assigned the Premier Soccer League to look for the match officials. This match has been sanctioned by Zifa and PSL, it is a professional match.
“This match is going to very a competitive, it is a big match with the President’s tag on it,” said Kasukuwere.
Kasukuwere said the match was a special present for the President and is going to be an annual event.
“As a person with experience in football administration, I approached my colleagues, the youths and indigenous business community from Harare, to help in putting up a very special present for the President,” said Kasukuwere.
Kasukuwere said they settled for Dynamos and CAPS United since Harare Province were the hosts for this year’s 21st Movement Celebrations.
“These celebrations go round the country. This year there are going to be hosted by Harare. Harare celebrate in their own way.
“Of course everyone is involved with the 21st February Celebrations but we hope Dynamos and CAPS United will pull the crowds befitting such an occasion and the name of the President,” said Kasukuwere.
CAPS United are also the favourite team for Robert Mugabe (Junior), the President’s son.
Kasukuwere said the money raised at the match will be handed over to President Mugabe who is expected to donate its to charities of his choice.
A pre-match conference will be held this afternoon at Zifa House and Kasukuwere said it would be up to the PSL and Zifa to decide how the match will be settled in the event of a draw after regulation time.
One option will be a straight penalty shoot-out while another option will be extra-time and then penalties.
The last time the two teams clashed was in the BancABC Sup8r Cup final which Dynamos won 3-2.
Kasukuwere said they had even made provisions for the two teams to go into camp, on the eve of the match, to show that they wanted a competitive tie.
“We are going to send the two teams into camp at a local hotel,” he said.
Speaking at the same occasion, Harare province’s youth political commissar, Brian Dzimiri urged the youths to come in their thousands for the big game.
“We want to thank the spirit of togetherness by the young indigenous business people, together we can defeat sanctions, we are our own liberators, let’s continue to be united.
“Yesterday it was land and tomorrow it is economy so we want to thank the young indigenous people.
“We want to encourage the youths to come in their numbers for the 21st Movement Celebration, it is now 25 years, we are celebrating a Silver Jubilee,” said Dzimiri.
One of the young business people, Donald Chanaiwa, said they saw it fit to chip in and help to organise the match.
“We felt it was a very noble cause, we looked at the many things the President has done for us and we emulate the President.
“We said let’s chip in with the little we have for the programme to become a success,” said Chanaiwa.
