ALL roads lead to Rufaro Stadium in Harare this afternoon where Caps United clash with defending champions Dynamos in the final of the Bob91 Super Cup. And ahead of the clash at the ceremonial home of Zimbabwean football both teams promised to give it their all moreso that the match is part of the celebrations of local, continental and world icon, President Mugabe.
“There will be fireworks because we prepared well for this derby. We have won it twice already and we want to win it the third time. We are taking this game seriously, moreso considering its significance,’’ said Dynamos team manager Richard Chihoro.
Asked on the threat from Roderick Mutumwa, a former DeMbare player who proved to be pivotal in their loss against his side recently, Chihoro, said:
“We will make sure that he is under check. But it is not all about Mutumwa, we will play as a unity and every Caps United player will be put under scrutiny. This is an important match because we are celebrating our President’s birthday and definitely we will give it our all.’’
Caps United’s British coach Mark Harrison said the match would not only be part of the preparations for the 2015 season, but they are taking it seriously because of its significance.
“We know the significance of this match. We will be out there to entertain the crowd, and the nation. We value the importance of this match especially that we are celebrating the birthday of the country’s President,’’ said Harrison.
Both the top teams’ rivalry is well documented, needs no introduction and whenever the two meet, bragging rights are always on the table and today’s will be no different.
Despite a lot being on offer and the bragging rights, Dynamos and Caps United will always fight tooth and nail to have one up against the other. With the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season beckoning, the two football giants will be seeking to kick it off on a high and a win this afternoon might provide the right tonic for a successful season.
One of the organisers of the Bob91 Super Cup, Stan Kasukuwere said they were still yet to confirm the prize money but it should not worry the teams because the Bob Super Cup participants have never walked away empty handed.
“We are making efforts in securing the funds and it would be premature for us to rush and make the announcements about that before we ascertain how much we can put into the prize kitty. We are working with various stakeholders that include the Youth League and various ministries in this, hence we need to consult others before making the announcement,’’ said Kasukuwere.
“However, since inception of this tournament we have never failed to pay the participants their due fees and it is not going to happen this time around.”
