All set for chess tourney

THE Zimbabwe Chess Federation will hold the Bulawayo Grand Prix chess tournament at Eveline Girls High School tomorrow. Bulawayo Chess Club spokesman Moses Mutipforo said the stage is set for the two-day tournament. “Everything is set and we expect many people to take part in this year’s tournament,” said Mutiforo.

He said top Bulawayo players have been preparing for this tournament.
“They have been preparing since the last tournament. Our aim is to come out tops as a province,” said Mutiforo.

Players expected to shine are Castro Sibanda, Thabang Moyo Kudakwashe Sibanda and Nigel Mabiza.
Yvonne Moyo of Bulawayo leads in the national grand prix standings with 49 points while Lloyd Moyo and Hamilton Machure both from Harare are on 45 and 42 points respectively.

More than $2000 has been set aside for prizes and the winner
Will pocket $400 while those who will come second and third will receive  $300 and $200 respectively.

Best woman player will take home $100 in individual prize while the runner-up will walk away with $50.
Best scholar will get $40 while the best Under-14 will take home $30.
