All set for Chibuku Road to Fame provincial finals

TEN Bulawayo musical groups are expected to compete at the Chibuku Road to Fame provincial finals at Manor Hotel tomorrow. The winners will represent the province at the national finals set for 28 September in Harare. In an interview, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe programmes officer for Bulawayo province, William Nyandoro, said all was set for the provincial finals.

“We are ready for the finals and this year we will be having up to 10 groups competing for the top prize and we expect stiff competition,” he said.
The provincial winners will get a cash prize of $1 000 while those that come second and third will walk away with $500 and $300 respectively.

The  groups competing this year are Hillbrow Stars, One Way Africa, Bavumile Super Stars, Dakamela Super Sounds, Sounds of Universe, Runzenga Stars, Sesifikile Powered Echoes, Jacob Somerai and Chiraramo Boys, Molasis Express and Mpfure Express

Last year Facebook Brothers won the provincial finals and represented the province at the national finals in Harare.
Bulawayo last won the national finals in 2006 when it was represented by Blackface.

Entertainment at the provincial event will be provided by Chase Skhuza and Tukuye Super Sounds.
Chibuku Road to Fame, a collaborative effort between National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and Delta Beverages who are the sponsors, started in 2001.

The competition is meant to promote the development of the music industry through identifying and promoting music groups with potential to produce and record their music.
