THE 10th edition of the Cimas iGo Half-Marathon will take place this morning at the Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC).
Top athletes and fitness enthusiasts are expected to participate in the event, which follows the Harare edition held last weekend.
This year’s theme, “Men’s Health Champions Build Healthier Communities,” focuses on raising awareness about men’s health, particularly prostate and testicular cancer.
Cimas chief executive Vulindlela Ndlovu expressed his excitement ahead of the event.
“We’re looking forward to a successful event. Many people have registered to participate, and we’re eager to promote health and wellness, particularly among men. Prostate cancer is a leading cause of death among men globally, and we encourage early screening and regular check-ups.”
Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) chairman Watson Madanyika also confirmed the board’s readiness for the event.
“We have everything in order. Our officials are ready to assist athletes and ensure a smooth race. We’re grateful to our sponsors for their support, and we’re excited to host this event, which has become a traditional feature on our calendar.”
The event schedule includes the 21km race at 5.30am, followed by the 10km at 6am and the 5km at 6.30 am.
Cimas has partnered with the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) to promote health awareness and showcase the medical aid society’s projects. Journalists from the Southern Region on Friday toured Cimas facilities, including the newly refurbished laboratory and dental unit in Bulawayo.
Cimas chief marketing officer Tatenda Madzikanda emphasised the importance of partnerships in promoting health awareness.
“Our motto is about walking the talk. We appreciate the partnership with ZUJ and are excited to showcase our facilities and projects.”
Cimas has been Zimbabwe’s leading medical aid society for over 75 years, preferred by corporates and families since 1945.
