The Zimbabwe Agriculture Society is satisfied with preparations for the 2013 Harare Agricultural Show, which starts tomorrow.
ZAS said everything was in order with exhibitors now putting final touches to their stands. Few exhibitors were yesterday still to start preparing for the show.
ZAS spokesperson Ms Heather Madombwe said most exhibitors usually start working on their stands on the first day of the show.
“We are quite happy with the preparations. We are looking at the usual capacity of 780 stands.
“We currently have 740 stands booked which is less than the 750 stands that had been booked during the same period last year,” she said.
Ms Madombwe said since the show was running concurrently with the UNWTO in Victoria Falls it was impossible for some companies to exhibit at both functions.
She said about 320 farmers have registered to participate at this year although the number is expected to increase.
“We are still to finalise with farmers from Chinhoyi. Most farmers are arriving on Thursday (today) with their produce and we expect some to book on that day,” she said.
This year there is going to be a bull sale on August 29 with viewing of the hulls starting on Sunday.
The Mukono Bull Sale will see 45 quality bulls of five different breeds selected from 10 registered breeders being sold.
This year, showgoers will be treated to Zimbabwe Defence Forces displays, drum majorettes, fireworks, dances from different groups among other things and music from various musicians including the Chimbetu family, Peter Moyo and Winky D.
This year’s show, which closes on August 31, is running under the theme “Environmental, Entrepreneurial, Educational”.
Children under the age of 12 will pay US$1 and adults US$5.
