All is set for the Macheso gig on the 29th of this month at Leicester’s Athena Arena, with both organisers and the artist optimistic of a lifetime experience for fans from the sungura godfather, who will be backed by Kurai Makore and Tocky Vibes.
The show, which comes on a day three Zimbabwean artists’ gigs are scheduled for the same weekend as Wolvermpton’s, The Hanger, will host the legends night show on the same night before Nutty O takes to the same stage on the 30th alongside Freeman, Madedido, and XQ for his album launch.
With Zimbabwean shows in the UK lately marred by controversy following the recent allegations of anti-social behaviour at the recently held annual Zimfest festival, organisers emphasised that the people should expect a flawless show, as the location was one of the best in Leicester and remained an upmarket venue.
“Show on Saturday 29 August 202. Phab Entertainment are Promoters. News of the South we are media partners we are sponsoring and hosting a press conference on Friday 28 August. We have been promoting the show together with Phab, and people can expect a great experience. The Athena in Leicester is an upmarket venue. News of the South Editor, Princess Eugene Majuru, said.
The organisers promised the fans a lot of surprises, with Culture T having been added to the star-studded line-up, and the sale of Eugene Majuru’s books will also bring a new twist to the show, with more surprises expected as the show draws near.
“All is set for the show, and books by Princess Eugene Majuru will also be on sale; a few lucky winners will win some prizes. Culture T, a Zimbabwean traditional music artist, will also perform at the event; he is an addition. Culture T is also on the much-awaited Mbira Festival on Saturday 5 September in Birmingham.”
Furthermore, “The show will avail a lifetime opportunity for 15 Macheso fans to meet and interact with the music maestro on Friday the 28th during a press conference.” Majuru added.
Macheso and the Orchestra Mberikwazvo outfit are equally prepared for the show and promised fans nothing but fireworks.
“As you know, we are the people’s band. Expect nothing short of fireworks as usual; be ready to witness a polished performance, and call for all the diaspora fans to come in their numbers.” Macheso’s Manager, Tich Makahamadze, said.
While the large number of Zimbabwean shows over the weekend signals the close of summer for most UK dwellers, it clearly shows the large appetite for homegrown entertainment for the Zimbabwean diaspora population. Tickets are available on ClicknPay and Fixer.
